Well...

WELL, since the whole stinkin thing was like 50% (one half) in parenthesis (what?), I pretty much had like a million bazillion things to choose from, (I trusted that I would make the correct choice) and I decided on the part where he goes on for like more than a page about the kind of people he works with. The passage is really well written (in my opinion), and he talks a lot about 'surface' things, like 'surface living.' This is the idea that American culture puts an emphasis on anything that is skin deep, anything that doesn't deal with anything real. No feelings are discussed, no emotional turmoils, no opposing philosophies that are just BEGGING to be discussed. These are the kind of lives he learns are led by his co-workers. He makes a statement that he wishes he could live that way, that blacks in general could live that way. He says that his whole life has been about his feelings, about cultivating them, and he moves north where all the sudden people strive to hide these and ignore them. We all love this kind of living. We eat it up on TV (Keeping Up with the Kardashians, Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives, I got more...), and encourage it to fellow Americans. Hello and welcome to Carmel, may I take your order?
