The author of this article believes that its dangerous to depict women and men as sex objects because doing so will only continue the overall objectification of women in today's society, while teaching men that it is in fact their duty to be dominant and aggressive, even when a woman says no. I think that this article does a really good job of easily spelling it out for the reader, with clear examples and insights into the issue. Admittedly, she goes a few steps too far more than once. (the girl who had her eyes blackened 'either by makeup or something else...' no. she really just had on makeup.) However, if nothing has changed in the past 20 years, it may take this harsh and exaggerated view to get anything to change. All of us know what these ads are, have seen them a million times. But if they continue to be prevalent across generations, they will continue to bring the women of America down. Thanks, but no thanks, I don't want to buy a pair of jeans because I saw a lady getting attacked by three men while wearing them in and ad. I guess that's just me. But to a degree this is just how our country works. As in the case of Calvin Klein, sometimes people purposefully put out provocative and twisted material simply to receive press, without a thought to what its impact upon women may be. Typical. Someone in America doing what they need to do for themselves and their in-group without thinking about any other group. I don't see this changing in the near future at all.
