Well, I haven't really had a whole lot of experience with racism because I am white. Living in Carmel, Indiana. But when I think of this subject, one particular story comes to mind.
I was at an old friends' house during my freshman year of high school. We were, of course, on facebook looking at pictures of mutual acquaintances and making fun of people's pages. We came across the page of a girl who had transferred to North Central in her freshman year. She had just recently put up pictures of her and her boyfriend, who was black. As we looked through the pictures my friend grew silent, which I just wrote off as jealousy, (she has yet to have a boyfriend ... ever.) and clicked through all the pictures. At the end, she said, 'my parents would kill me if I ever brought a black boy home.' ...What?!? So I asked her something along the lines of, what do you mean, to which she replied, you know, that kind of black person. Apparently his pants hung too low.
After that happened I lost a lot of respect for her in general, and it really shocked me that she was so blatantly racist about a girl and her boyfriend. The girl and her boyfriend broke up, the girl who was hatin' on them still has no social life, and I haven't talked to said girl in over a year.
And they all lived happily ever after.
