Cora and Willy are very different individuals. Willy uses his personal connections and relies on his own friendships and 'likability.' However, Cora does not really pursue her own self-interests. Instead she toils and travels and educates herself to work to make a difference.

Willy's determination for his work stems from a dream of financial stability, or overall success. He tries to get by just on his friendships, and believes that if a person is likable, they will be able to get ahead. Cora, however, uses her knowledge to achieve this success. She sees success as change, not personal financial success.

Although they are extremely different, there is one major similarity that I saw. They both were somewhat separated from their families. Willy's relationship with his sons was strained at best, and Cora has lost touch with her husband, while her own children are not interested in having a relationship with her.

Nice blog! I had not made the comparison between Cora and Willy's family lives untill reading your blog, and i think it is a very important notion in understanding their frames of mind. My only little disagreement is where you said that Willy believes if a person is likable they will get success. I think it is important that they are not only likable, but well liked. A kind of minor detail at first, but it makes all the difference in Willy's career because he is likable but not well liked.
